.58 cal. (24 ga.) Back Action Percussion Musket Carbine

This is a restored mid-to-late-1800s Back Action Lock Musket. The musket was originally a .69 cal. (14 ga.) smoothbore fowling gun with a 31-inch barrel. It is now a .58 cal. (24 ga.) 24-inch,  smoothbore barrel. I had to cut the barrel down due to damage to the end of the bore. The bore has been relined and mics out at .582.

The stock is European walnut. It has no cracks or chips, only the usual dings and dents from many years of use. The lock and springs are strong and work perfectly.

The musket has an LOP of 14 inches and is 39.5 overall in length. The musket is all original except for 5 parts—the hammer (which was broken), the hammer screw (which was missing), the nipple (which was mashed beyond use), the brass solder on turtle front sight, and of course the barrel liner.

PS, The barrel’s exterior is not as shiny as my pictures portray. It has a nice French Grey Patina. I stink as a photographer, and my camera is not the best. However, I wanted to leave the barrel in its antique state. You can easily blue or brown the barrel if you wish. I can color the barrel for you before I ship the musket.
