This is our new British Officers Dragoon/ Rogers Rangers kit.
This is a 66 caliber smooth bore that was copied from an original in the Smithsonian Museum collection. These guns were produced to the specifications of the British Ordinance Department. Officers were usually from wealthy aristocratic families, so their weapons were scaled down from the big Bess models and closer to the more sophisticated English Fowler of the day, befitting their status. They are also known as the Light Dragoon Pattern Brown Bess.
Our reproduction is entirely made in the USA. Parts are readily available and fully guaranteed.
The stock is in black walnut and fully inlet for the octagon to round tapered 37 ¾” barrel in 66 smooth. Length of pull is 13 7/8”. Overall length is 53 1/8” and 8 lbs. in weight. The stock is fully shaped and inlet for the tang molding, lock, trigger, trigger guard, tang, brass wrist inlay, and butt plate.
The lock is the officer’s model round faced flintlock scaled down from the Bess Lock and cast engraved with the British Crown and the original makers name “WHATLEY” behind the cock. This fine lock is manufactured and assembled, polished, tempered and tuned in the USA and fully guaranteed.
The trim is investment cast from the originals in solid brass. The thimbles are sized for the 1/4″ steel ram rod and flared tip. Two steel sling swivels are included for easy carry. Officers carried swords so no need for a bayonet lug. These guns had a proper sterling silver front sight and a “top hat” tang bolt rear.
This is not a cheap import from India. It’s all made right here in the USA. No teak wood stock, soft frizzens or hard to get parts.
Everything you need to complete this very accurate British Military Light Dragoon model Bess or Rogers Rangers Carbine is included.
The great thing about this kit is that it can be finished in two distinctively different ways, for two very different uses, just as the originals were.
- As an officer’s musket they would be finished with polished barrels, lock and trim. They were designed for face-to-face lined warfare and meant to impress the rag tag colonial army with the grandeur of the world’s largest military force. Great for re-enactors.
- As a Rogers Rangers Carbine, these same parts would be finished for stealth and camouflage. These would be restocked here in the colonies to accomplish the needs of guerilla warfare. The metal parts would be matt browned or lightly blued grey. The stock could be stained dark, with a matt finish. The brass trim would be darkened and dulled for concealment. Great for re-enactors and hunters too!
