It features a 50 cal CVA rifled barrel cut to 39 inches. CVA barrels are fine barrels with shallow groove rifling and 1×56 twist, but the Nock patent breech was very safe but not great for flint ignition. We shortened the barrel breech and installed the flint breech plug for fast ignition and then turned the barrel octagon to round with two wedding bands to save some more weight and improve the handling. This now focuses the point of balance to right where you support it with your left hand when shooting. The length of pull is 14” at an improved weight of8.4 lbs.
The chosen lock is the L&R Queen Anne round faced Fowler lock so popular and correct on these guns. It features a rain proof pan seal, hand forged main spring, and turned and polished bearing surfaces. The vent is located in the “sunrise position” for sure fire fast ignition. It is tripped by the early style double set L&R Triggers.
