.36 Cal. ‘Over the Log’ Rifle. Built for Long Range Accuracy.

Here is a Great find. A one-of-a-kind, mid-to-late 1800’s .36 Cal. ‘Over the Log’ Rifle.

Built for long range accuracy/competition shooting. The rifle was built sometime in the 1800’s, just after the Civil War by W.M. Cramer. His mark is still faintly visible on the barrel just aft of the rear sight.

The particulars are,
Overall Length of 56″ and a weight of 11 pounds
40.25″ Barrel Length
The Barrel is 1″ across the flats
The bore is in very good condition with strong lands and groves. This rifle was very well taken care of
The rifle has a Brass Blade Front Sight and a Step Ladder Rear Sight. The elevation adjustments on the rear sight are very fine for sub-MOA adjustments
The rifle has Double Set Triggers that work perfectly
The lock, the makers name unreadable, only has a full cock position.
The rifle is Brass Mounted Furniture. But Plate, Toe Plate, Trigger Guard, 3 Thimbles and a Nose Cap

The Stock is an excellent piece of Old Growth Curley Maple in excellent condition. No cracks evident. There is a chip on the heel, a missing sliver along the top of the barrel channel near the muzzle and a well-done repair just left of the hammer. Nothing structural. The stock is very solid.

This rifle is all original except for the Ramrod and Trigger Guard. The original TG was broken so I installed one that was as close to the original as I could find. I’ll include the original TG with the rifle. Perhaps you can repair the rear foot and reinstall it.
