.32 cal. So. Mtn. Rifle, When Dixie was Turner Kirkland’s

Very rare Dixie Gun Works .32 Cal. Southern Mountain Rifle. Circa, 1960’s/70’s

From what I can tell, this rifle was assembled from parts from ‘Dixie Gun Works’ in the 1960’s or early 1970’s.

This rifle has never been fired. Until recently. the touch hole was not drilled.

The touch hole has since been drilled and is ready to hunt. The wood has shrunk with age causing spaces between the wood and metal fit. However, with some TLC, this could be a gorgeous Rifle.

44-inch, .32 cal., Douglas Barrel, 13/16ths across the flats with a 1:66 twist and a bright bore.

The stock looks to be a dark stained Birds Eye Maple.

The lock is a ‘Made for Dixie’ Italian made lock. These locks are marked ‘Made in Italy’, with a ‘77’ stamped on them to identify them as a Dixie Lock. Although made in Italy, they were excellent locks. Far superior to the locks made by today’s Italian lock makers. The functions as intended.

Length of Pull is 12 ¼ inch with a very nice trigger pull.

Weight, 8 ½ pounds.

All brass furniture.

There’s a chip repair on the forearm and the trigger guard is off center. This rifle is a one-of-a-kind begging for a new home and some TLC.
