Rogers Rangers Musket
Here’s an excellent Rogers Rangers Musket recently finished by Rick Baker, ColonialRifleSmith.
The musket features a 38-inch custom octagon to round .69 cal: 14-gauge Greg Christian barrel.
The lock is a 3rd Model Brown Bess Lock assembled from rough castings by Rick Baker.
The lock is triggered by a single lever trigger, pinned to the stock, and set for very easy touch-off.
The vent is drilled and coned in the sunrise position for perfect ignition.
There is a deep scratch at the top of the butt plate comb, too deep to sand out. It has been filled with two-part epoxy.
The front sight is a brass solder-on, large, Fusil Front Sight. There is no rear sight, but one could be easily added on the flats.
The musket has a steel ramrod and 2 sling swivels.
The furniture is a historically authentic all-brass configuration.
The stock is made of Silver Oak from the Mississippi Valley Region. Silver Oak is not really an oak tree. Silver Oak is a member of the nut tree family. The wood has an excellent grain pattern; it’s about the same weight as maple and is extremely strong and durable.
The musket is colored dark to suppress any reflective surfaces for the stealth tactics of the Rogers Rangers.
This musket is a representation of the Rogers Rangers Muskets of their day.
