This is an excellent example of a Civil War-era percussion rifle dated 1864. When I received the rifle, the bore was badly pitted, and the lock was frozen. However, the stock is what caught my attention. I knew I could save this wonderful piece of American History. The particulars are;
The barrel has been relined with a 4130 chromemoly steel barrel liner in .32 cal. smoothbore. 41.5 inches long. I also replaced the breech plug, drum, and nipple. Therefore, the firing chain is new. The replacements are well done and look original to the rifle. The barrel is a tapered octagon barrel to make the rifle light at the muzzle.
Rebuilt the lock. The lock retains all its original parts and functions perfectly. The lock does not have a half cock. It was originally built this way.
The rifle features double-set triggers set for easy touch-off. Set the rear trigger, cock the hammer, then fire the front trigger.
The Length of pull is 13.25 inches from the front trigger.
The stock is Old Growth Walnut. It has darkened with age and has been hand carved. The stock is in excellent condition for its age.
The furniture is brass with the side plate being stamped ‘1864’
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own an outstanding piece of American History.
PS. If you fire this rifle, I recommend 10 to 20 grains FFFG Black Powder (NO MORE) and a .310 round ball with a .005 oiled patch. It’s a black powder rifle, not a 30-06. The nipple uses #11 caps.
