This is a unique opportunity. This trade gun was originally built as a flintlock with an L&R Trade Gun Lock #2200. The owner converted it to a caplock. There are 3 possibilities here. You can leave it as a caplock conversion, which is historically correct for the Mountain Man/Fur Trade era Rendezvous. You can replace the externals with a flintlock and replace the drum with a vent liner for an earlier time period, or buy an L&R Trade Gun Lock #2200. With both locks, you will have the best of both worlds.
This is an UNUSED-USED GUN by Mark Michel, Portsmouth, Virginia. The previous owner carried it around camp as part of his persona and never fired it.
The Musket has a 41-inch, .62 cal., Colerain octagon-to-round barrel.
The lock is an L&R Trade Gun Lock #2200, converted to percussion ignition.
The stock is very nicely grained M3 curly maple, colored with Iron Nitrate and finished with hand-rubbed oil.
The spots on the nose are not cracks. They are part of the wood grain.
The length of pull is 14.25 inches, and the overall length is 57 inches.
The musket doesn’t have a rear sight. The front sight is a steel fowler sight.
The butt plate is brass, held on with brass nails. The side plate is the standard brass serpent.
The trigger guard is the traditional Trade Gun large bow type.
